Laura Linney is an American actor, who became popular for her portrayal of powerful but fragile characters. Born to a renowned playwright father, but raised by a single mother, who earned her living in the field of nursing, she began to take an interest in theater while having summers spent with her father then pursuing acting studies, first at Brown University and then at Juilliard School. Starting her acting career on the Broadway soon after graduation, she made her debut in film within two years. She also appeared on TV within a year. Since then, she has performed in many films and TV and stage productions. She has been nominated for three Tony Awards, three Academy Awards, five Awards, and four Primetime Emmy Awards (including two Golden Globe Awards), and has won numerous awards throughout her professional career. She has been nominated for five Tony Awards and three Oscar Award nominations. However, despite her distinctions and awards, theater is her main interest and she is determined to play on stage and screen.
